Fredrikson: Proposed Cumberland Farms/Arby’s is a bad idea

The proposed Cumberland Farms/Arby's at the corner of Blackstone Valley Place and Route 116 (George Washington Highway) is a very bad idea. According to The Valley Breeze, this would require a special use permit, and I urge the powers that be not to issue one. This area is suitable for places like professional offices, doctor's offices, or other non-commercial businesses.

There is already a gas station/convenience store within a half-mile of this proposed location and I have never seen more than three or four cars at its pumps at one time. These businesses belong on the other side of Route 146 (west of Route 146).

I do not want to see George Washington Highway become like Mendon Road in Cumberland, Bald Hill Road in Warwick, or Route 1 in North Attleboro. This would also affect the quality of life for the residences across the street from the proposed location, not to mention add to an already busy traffic situation. This will also affect traffic on Great Road as people will use this as a cut-through to avoid the intersection of Blackstone Valley Place and Rt. 116.

I encourage the residents of Lincoln to attend the Planning Board meeting at Town Hall at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, July 28, where there will be a public informational hearing on this proposal.
