Woonsocket Historical Society receives grant to assist with community outreach

WOONSOCKET – The Woonsocket Historical Society has been awarded a Rhode Island Legislative grant on behalf of state Rep. Robert Phillips of District 51 in the amount of $1,000.

The Rhode Island Legislative grant award will be used to assist the Woonsocket Historical Society to re-establish community outreach through activities to allow the public to have access to resources initiated by the Woonsocket Historical Society. Support through the Rhode Island Legislative grant allows the Woonsocket Historical Society, during these uncertain times, to renew their community outreach and commitment to not only preserving Woonsocket’s history but continue to maintain the tapestry of Woonsocket for future generations.

This award will help in the WHS’s continuation of preservation efforts, making Woonsocket’s history and contributions to the Blackstone Valley known with greater accessibility to the public. It will also help to contribute to the educational, cultural and artistic fabric that anchors Woonsocket as a contributor to the legacy of the Blackstone River Valley.

The Woonsocket Historical Society’s long-range goal is to show the historical and cultural assets throughout Woonsocket and the Blackstone River Valley while inviting residents throughout the surrounding area and from around the state to explore Woonsocket’s treasures.

The Woonsocket Historical Society is located at the back of the Museum of Work & Culture, 42 South Main St. Parking is located on Island Place.
