Jeffrey A. Oakland – Cumberland

Jeffrey A. Oakland, of Cumberland, died suddenly and unexpectedly on July 22, 2021, after a brief illness.

Although Jeff was born in Pawtucket, he was the quintessential "Cumby Boy." His parents, the late "Cutie" Frances Oakland and the late Arthur Oakland purchased a home in the new "Arnold Mills" plat on Metcalf Drive when he was 2 years old. The house backed right up to the new baseball field, the new neighbors were friendly and everyone wanted a chance for the "American Dream” for their children.

Jeff got that chance, along with his brother "Woodie" Oakland. Jeff attended Cumberland High School and after prep school, was finally accepted at Temple University. He has aspirations to join the architecture program, however found more opportunity in radio news. He graduated from Temple with an associate degree and returned home to Rhode Island to promptly begin work at WJAR Radio News in Downtown Providence. This was followed by many other jobs for WICE, WEAN News, WERL News and then his very favorite, the "Mutt and Jeff" show on JB105 in Westerly. As they say "Video Killed the Radio Show,"and Jeff turned to the performing arts and begin working for Trinity Rep in Downtown Providence for several years.

Tall and athletic, he enjoyed running, racing and yoga, which he practiced faithfully. His favorite trip to Boston every year was to see the Boston Pops perform "Handle’s Messiah." Jeff leaves his older brother, Woodie Oakland, and his grieving wife, Karen Russell Oakland.

May he rest in peace and find time to watch all the "Snews" he wants. He will be greatly missed.
