Lafond Anniv1

NORTH SMITHFIELD – Robert L. and Diane L. Lafond celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on April 14. Under the COVID-19 circumstances, a small celebration dinner with family was shared at Alicante Restaurant in Mendon, Mass. A special Papal Blessing in recognition of their 50th anniversary was presented as a gift to the couple.

Mr. and Mrs. Lafond were married on Aug. 14, 1971, at Our Lady Queen of Martyrs Church in Woonsocket. The reception was held at Wright’s Farm Restaurant in Burrillville. Mrs. Lafond is the former Diane L. Perron.

The couple are the parents of Bob Lafond of Douglas, Mass., and Kevin Lafond of Central Falls. They are the grandparents of Emersyn Lafond of Douglas, Mass.

Mrs. Lafond is retired, but worked for many years as a receptionist at St. Antoine Residence in North Smithfield. She enjoys volunteering and actively serving the needs of the community and spending time with her friends and family, especially her granddaughter.

Mr. Lafond is retired and worked for many years in business development for North Central R.I. Chamber of Commerce, Greater Providence Chamber of Commerce; sales and IT support for Tupperware Corporation and AT Cross among other business ventures. Over the years, he was active in many social and civic clubs including: The Cercle Laurier Club, Rotary International, The Men of St. Joseph, Knights of Columbus and North Smithfield Youth Hockey Association. Since February 2013, he has served as a deacon in the Diocese of Providence as special assistant to Bishop Louis E. Gelineau and currently at St. Antoine Residence, North Smithfield. For many years he shared his enjoyment of music by entertaining residents of various residential communities in R.I. and nearby Massachusetts as well.
