CUMBERLAND – Bristol County Savings Bank, through its Bristol County Savings Charitable Foundation, recently awarded a $1,500 grant to the Cumberland School Volunteers.

The CSV is a local nonprofit offering programs and services to Cumberland schools. Grant funds were used to support the CSV’s sponsorship of the Reading Is Fundamental program.

To ensure children continued to have access to books during the pandemic, the CSV established a book bag program.

Individually-bagged books were delivered to Cumberland elementary classrooms, offering children free books to take home and keep.

During the 2020-21 school year, 11 book bag program visits were offered and more than 4,000 new books were distributed.

Marking its 25th anniversary, the Bristol County Savings Charitable Foundation has committed more than $25 million to hundreds of nonprofits in the communities it serves.

The purpose of the Foundation is to fund needs that contribute to the economic and social well-being of the people and institutions in the local area.
