CUMBERLAND – The Cumberland Water Department on Tuesday issued a temporary outdoor water ban for owners of all accounts north of Marshall Avenue.

"Due to a combination of the current heatwave and mechanical failure at Manville 1 well, we are struggling to maintain the daily demand," stated a release.

The outdoor water ban prohibited use of water such as watering lawns and gardens, washing cars, driveways, houses and the topping off of swimming pools.

"We expect to have the mechanical failure rectified by the end of the week," stated the release. "We expect to lift the water ban by the beginning of next week. Your cooperation is greatly appreciated."
