FOSTER — After 30 years in law enforcement, and eight years in the Foster Police Department, Chief David Breit is retiring.
Breit said he “simply” reached a point in his life where he feels that he needs a change. He previously worked for the North Providence Police Department for 22 years. He reached the rank of sergeant in North Providence before moving to Foster.
He worked in Foster for three years before being appointed as police chief in April 2018.
Breit said after working in Foster, he grew to love the town and its people. When former Chief William Ziehl approached Briet about the position, he said he was surprised.
Breit said he is fortunate for the “great ride” working in law enforcement, and feels he has been “very fortunate.”
“I have had the chance to work with some incredible people over the years and I am ready for a new future,” Breit said.
Breit, who lives in Johnson, said he enjoys exercising at the gym, and is busy with his family. He is a retired infantryman and machine gunner in the Marine Corps.
