PAWTUCKET – Several speakers on Irish history are among the events planned for the upcoming 1981 Belfast Hunger Strike Monument fundraiser, to be held on Saturday, Oct. 2, at 2 p.m., at Galway Bay Irish Pub, 158 South Bend St.

Musicians Sean Connell and Carolyn Reeves will provide entertainment, and a selection of Hunger Strike memorabilia will be raffled off. The ceremony is free to the public.

The monument will honor 10 men who died during a hunger strike in a Belfast prison in the spring and summer of 1981. The event is sponsored the R.I. Unit of Irish Northern Aid and the 1916 Easter Rising Centennial Committee.
