Big Brothers Big Sisters opens new headquarters in Olneyville

Founder of Big Sisters of Rhode Island Dr. Dorothy Pieniadz, and North Providence resident Katje Afonseca, CEO of BBSRI, cut the ribbon on Big Brothers Big Sisters of Rhode Island’s new headquarters in Olneyville’s Rising Sun Mills in Providence. Pieniadz founded Big Sisters of Rhode Island along with other members of Zonta International in 1966. The milestone event was attended by BBBSRI leadership, board members, staff, and local community members, including Clare Kirby, Big Sisters executive director from 1985 to 1990, Sen. Frank Ciccone, Lieutenant Governor Sabina Matos, Councilman Oscar Vargas, and Councilwoman Nirva Rebecca LaFortune. Lt. Governor Matos presented a citation to the agency.
