NORTH SMITHFIELD – North Smithfield police have arrested a man who was wanted for assaulting police officers during an overnight traffic stop last week.

Carlos Webster, 44, of 119 Whitehall St., Providence, was taken into custody around 1 p.m. on Monday at the Hill Top Motor Lodge on Route 146. Police officers responded to a tip that the suspect was at the motor lodge and located Webster, who fought with officers before being placed in handcuffs. Webster, who already faced charges of assault on police officers, disorderly conduct, resisting arrest, driving on suspended license and obstruction of a police officer for his encounter with police last week, will face additional charges of resisting arrest and disorderly conduct for the incident that took place on Monday.

According to police, Webster has been arrested at least 30 times since 1994. He was arraigned in 3rd District Court at the Kent County Court House on Tuesday morning.
