PAWTUCKET – Organizers have announced the inaugural Homeless Assistance Drive being held through Oct. 30.

This drive will help the homeless by providing needed fundamental items for health and hygiene. Items needed for all age groups include socks, undergarments, toothbrushes, toothpaste, soap, facecloths, deodorant, towels, menstrual products, ponchos (all weather) and blankets. These items should be new-purchase items. Also sought are women’s handbags and purses, which can be used, but must be clean and in excellent condition.

Here are seven drop-off locations: City Hall, the Leon Mathieu Senior Center, Pawtucket Public Library, the Empowerment Factory, and three Pawtucket Fire Stations, 375 Cottage St., 385 Newport Ave., and 301 Smithfield Ave.

On Oct. 23, the Pawtucket Youth Council will decorate a vehicle for the drive to participate in Slater Park’s Trunk or Treat event. Each item donated to the Homeless Assistance Drive at the event will receive a special treat. With an anticipated 300 to 400 children attending the event, any non-monetary contributions to the stash of special treats can be dropped off at the Slater Park office.

Organizers currently have a donation of 100 tickets for the Looff Carousel, which will be open when the event ends that evening. They are seeking contributions of candy or carousel tickets, which are 50 cents apiece.

Donations received for the Homeless Assistance Drive will be distributed to local shelters in November, which is Homeless Awareness Month.
