WOONSOCKET – The City Council on Oct. 4 approved a $349,890 contract with A.A. Asbestos Abatement Co. to demolish the former Dorado Processing plant at 719 River St.

The vacant mill complex has long been targeted by the city for potential demolition and remediation and is under the oversight of a court-appointed special master.

The mill’s owner, Dorado Properties LLC, owes several years’ worth of unpaid taxes on the property. Mayor Lisa Baldelli-Hunt has previously stated she would be interested in looking at the site for potential solar development.
