William R. “Bill” Vangel Sr., 84, of North Scituate, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, Sept. 22.
He was the husband of Joyce D. (Levesque) Vangel they were married for 64 years. He was father to William Vangel Jr. (Tina) of Foster; Pamela Vangel of Coventry; and Christopher Vangel (Jennifer) of North Scituate; three grandchildren Matthew, Nolin and Charlotte; and one great-grandson, Caleb. He is preceded in death by his son James Vangel.
Bill was the son of the late William and Lorretta Vangel. He was the brother of the late Irene Vangel and the late Violet Popescu. He served in the U. S. Air Force in the 1960s stationed in Berlin, Germany, and was a member of the Rhode Island Air National Guard serving as an electronics instructor.
Bill enjoyed spending time with his family, being outside, fishing and camping around New England. He loved a good joke and could be the life of the party. He worked as a machinist for the Lessona Corporation and in the maintenance department at Mine Safety Appliance Corporation and the Catholic Diocese of Providence.
Calling hours will be at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 28, followed by a memorial service at noon at Winfield and Sons Funeral Home, 571 West Greenville Road, North Scituate. Burial with military honors will follow at the Highland Memorial Park Cemetery.
