I was somewhat perplexed to read in The Breeze that Lincoln officials are now looking at scaling back on the Lincoln High School athletics complex plans.
The problem is that the Lincoln School Department proposed $12 million for this project, while there is roughly only $6 million in bond premium money available for it.Instead of scaling back, members of the Lincoln Town Council should push back on the $12 million being proposed by the School Department. That number is completely out of whack and calls into question the School Department’s credibility.
The town of Johnston built a state-of-the-art sports facility in 2016, at a cost of $3 million.
It offers volleyball, batting practice, lacrosse, soccer, and track with an occupancy of 280 people. It also contains restrooms, an office, and a concession area.
I highly recommend that members of the Town Council visit the Johnston facility prior to taking Lincoln taxpayers down the wrong path, under the poor advisement of the School Department, yet again.
