As a small business owner, I have seen how hard it has been to recover from the significant economic impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic. Well-intentioned safety restrictions and other measures have put small businesses, like Santoro’s Pizza, at risk of shutting our doors for good.

However, many favorite local stores and restaurants are still open today because of the continued support of legislators like Senate President Dominick Ruggerio. The financial support from our government has helped many businesses like mine to stay open during such difficult times, allowing us to continue to serve our community and keep our employees employed.

Most importantly, I want to thank Senate President Ruggerio for standing against new tax increases on Rhode Island’s local business community. New taxes that hurt small businesses, like the harmful beverage tax, are crippling to business operations and would add costs onto those who can’t afford it.

I work hard every day to keep Santoro’s Pizza open for the North Providence community, providing stable jobs for my employees and the best service to my loyal customers. And my work and ability to maintain our operations would have been made that much harder without the support of Senate President Ruggerio, and I thank him for his efforts to help our state’s small businesses.
