PROVIDENCE – North Smithfield native and Rhode Island College senior Alex Bourque was recently recognized as the top male collegiate tennis player who hails from this state during the 2020-21 season by the U.S. Tennis Association at a special ceremony held in the Governor’s Lounge in the Rhode Island State House.

Bourque, who graduated from North Smithfield High in 2017, received the USTA’s Andy Chase Award. He posted a 5-2 record at first singles and first doubles for the RIC men’s tennis team, which ended up one win shy of reaching this spring’s NCAA Division III Championships.

Among the past winners of this award are Smithfield’s Matt Kuhar and Cumberland’s Eric Laboissonniere.
