CUMBERLAND — The North Smithfield High girls’ cross country team clinched its fifth straight winning season in the Northern Division last Wednesday, Sept. 29, by posting a 4-1 record at a six-team meet at the Cumberland Monastery’s 3.1-mile course.
The Northmen improved to 7-3 by blanking Woonsocket, Davies, and Central Falls, 15-50, and defeating North Providence, 17-46. North Smithfield also nearly defeated the host team, Lincoln, but suffered a 27-28 loss.
The Lions took the top three spots in the race, which contained 40 runners, but the Northmen swept the fourth through sixth places behind freshman Mya Silveira (22:38) and sophomores Jasmine Burt (22:46), and Eden Beauregard (22:53).
North Smithfield also swept the eighth through 12th places behind sophomore Amelia Boyes (23:30), senior co-captain Calla Puccetti (23:47), junior Lydia Hughes (24:44), sophomore Zoey Lachance (24:49), and freshman Rachael Snyzyk (25:09).
Also finishing the race in under 26 minutes and placing in the top 20 were junior Samantha Fagan (14th place, 25:36), senior co-captain Abby Fortin (15th, 25:39), and senior Kat Brandao (16th, 25:44).
The boys’ team, meanwhile, evened its dual-meet record at 5-5 by shutting out Woonsocket and Central Falls, 15-50, and defeating Davies, 23-38, and North Providence, 24-31. The Lions, who swept the top five places in the race, also shut out the Northmen, 15-50.
The Northmen’s top runner was junior co-captain Joshua Hanlon, who placed 10th out of 51 runners in a time of 19:55, and rounding out N.S.’s top five were juniors Keandre Alexander (15th place, 20:18), co-captain Ethan Harnois (17th, 20:50), Matt Lagasse (19th, 20:56), and Connor McNeil (21st, 21:07).
Also posting times under 22 minutes were sophomore cousins Jackson Boisvert (27th, 21:42) and Owen Boisvert (29th, 21:47), and freshman Sam Dalti also shined, as he took 30th place in 22:07.
