NORTH PROVIDENCE – Michaela Rizzo netted a goal and two assists and Olivia DePalma produced the game-winning goal in the 55th minute to help lead the North Providence High girls’ soccer team to its first Division II victory of the season, a 3-2 win over Toll Gate last Wednesday night on the Cougars’ campus.

Tatiana Goncalves also scored a goal for the Cougars, who improved to 1-1-3, and goalkeeper Molly Witt turned away 13 shots in an excellent effort.

Earlier this season, the Cougars battled North Smithfield to a scoreless draw, played Ponaganset and Scituate to 1-1 ties, and suffered a 2-1 defeat to the Prout School.

North Providence, which was scheduled to host the Wheeler School on Tuesday night, will head to East Providence on Thursday for a 4 p.m. game against Bay View Academy.
