NORTH PROVIDENCE – Two days after picking up its fourth victory of the Division III season, the North Providence High boys’ soccer team absorbed its first loss last Thursday night by suffering a 3-1 defeat on its home field to undefeated Tiverton.

The Cougars were done in by the Tigers’ freshman standout, Keith Gillette, who netted a hat trick by scoring a goal in the opening half and the other two in the second. Sebastian Velez scored an unassisted goal in the second half for North Providence, and goalkeeper Alex Carvalho ended the game with 10 saves.

The Cougars, who had defeated Scituate last week by a 4-1 score, are back in action on Thursday at home with a 6:30 p.m. match against neighboring Blackstone Valley Prep.

Tiverton and Burrillville entered this week with 5-0 records, and Narragansett, which is 4-1, and NP sat below the leaders in the standings.
