Much has changed about the coming snowstorm, and the National Weather Services is now predicting mostly a rain event for Rhode Island, with dramatically reduced totals, though there's still an outside chance of strong accumulations in parts of northern Rhode Island.
UPDATE – 5:15 p.m. Sunday
The National Weather Service was predicting snow totals of 3-4 inches for northern Rhode Island as of first thing Saturday morning, but a 5 p.m. updated snow map bumps those totals up to 8-12 inches of snow.
"A significant winter storm will impacting southern New England Monday night through Tuesday night, with heavy wet snow, strong winds and potential power outages," states the National Weather Service.
A winter storm watch is in effect for portions of northern Connecticut, central and northeastern Massachusetts and northern Rhode Island from Monday evening through Wednesday morning, with heavy wet snow possible.
Travel could be difficult, with snow combined with gusty winds bringing down tree branches and resulting in power outages.
This storm remains difficult to predict, especially for northern Rhode Island, with models all over the place on how it will all play out.
